Dr. Alvarado gets Kentucky senate to pass bill banning tobacco products at public schools and their events


Alumnus and Kentucky Republican state senator Dr. Ralph Alvarado ’94 was elected in 2014 and has been leading the effort to restrict smoking in the state. Kentucky has the highest rate of smoking in the United States, so Dr. Alvarado faces no easy task. In 2015 and 2016 bills restricting smoking in the state were both voted down by the Senate. Recently, Dr. Alvarado played a major role in convincing the Senate to pass a bill banning tobacco products from public schools and events.
