From Labor to Deliverance
by Adwoa Wiafe ’21
On my obstetrics rotation, I was moved by the beauty of God’s design of the woman’s body to bring life into this world in such a rhythmic pattern—it compelled me to write this poem. It is a metaphor of the Sabbath command to labor for six days and then experience the freedom of rest, a deliverance of our labors pointing to the future eternal rest from the labor pains of this world. If you’re going through labor, God is giving you a promise of deliverance from your struggles.
Dr. Wiafe was born in the mission field of Ethiopia to Ghanaian and Zambian parents, and grew up near Loma Linda. She will be completing a family medicine residency at Loma Linda University.
