Dr. Maloney passed away June 28, 2016

Calvin G. Maloney ’52, 92, of Bonita, CA passed away June 28, 2016 at Sharp’s Memorial Hospital in Chula Vista, CA. Born October 27, 1923 in Loveland, CO to George David and Eva Dorothy Maloney.

He served in the US Army Air Corp. from March 9, 1943 until December 6, 1945 in the 804th Medical Air Evac Squadron as a Surgical and Medical Tech 401. He had over 1,000 hours “in theater” in the Pacific during World War II.

He married Wilma Leona Henthorn September 8, 1946. She predeceased him on November 24, 2009. They and had four children. He graduated from the College of Medical Evangelists (now Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, CA) in 1952. After graduation from medical school he practiced general medicine in Point Pleasant, West Virginia and Jefferson, Wisconsin before moving to National City, CA in 1962 to set up a long lasting medical practice.

He served on staff and was Chief of Staff at Paradise Valley Hospital, National City, CA in the 1980’s and retired as a Physician in 1992. He was a Life Member of the San Diego Wild Animal Park and the San Diego Zoo. He was a man of faith and a member of the Paradise Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church.

After retirement he lived quietly in Bonita, CA. Cal loved and valued spending time with his family. He enjoyed traveling both in the US and around the world. He loved gardening, photography, hiking and nature.

He is survived by his sons; Larry Maloney and Sandy Simmons, Riverside, CA, Rick and wife Charlene Maloney, Berrien Center, MI, William and wife Diane Maloney, Stoneham, MA, daughter Drema and husband Terry Pagels, Rock Island, IL; Grandchildren, Kristine and husband Brandy Branstetter, Yellowstone, MT, Calvin Maloney, Mishawaka, IN, Micah and wife Danielle Maloney, Ware, MA, Crystal and husband Alex Carroll, Moline, IL, Cassandra Pagels, Rock Island, IL, Charlene and husband Tony Madrid, Rock Island, IL; great-grandchildren, Levi and Miles Maloney, Logan Scranton, Iggy Scranton, Everley Carroll, Christian Pagels, Toby Patterson, Chasten Lochner, Shelby Dammann; Adopted great-grandchildren, Ginny, Evie, Porschia, Lydia, Kale and Lilly. His dear companion Ellie Schmidt.

Doctor Maloney was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Curtis Maloney.
