H. Del Schutte Jr. ’84, AA Past President and an orthopedic surgeon, says that business has slowed given the cancellation of elective ortho cases. As Chief of Surgery at East Cooper Regional Medical Center, South Carolina, he has been active in facilitating $10,000 contributions from his colleagues toward a general fund to avoid layoffs of the rank-and-file employees at East Cooper. Del mused that cash is becoming irrelevant as no one wants to touch other people’s paper money and that restrictions on “ability to buy/sell” that we have heard about in prophecy are perhaps unfolding. He is embracing the unexpected opportunity to go camping and hiking with his now-back-at-home daughter, Maddie Schutte, as she also is studying remotely during COVID-19 as a junior at Wofford College, Spartanburg, SC. “It’s something we probably never would have done together if not for this pandemic.”
