In April, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Marti Baum ’79-B testified before the state Senate in support of Senate Bill 276, a measure aimed at strengthening the oversight of medical exemptions for vaccination requirements. Dr. Baum was joined by a group of Inland Empire physicians as members of the San Bernardino County Medical Society. Four Loma Linda University residents and six medical students accompanied the team to Sacramento.
The California Medical Association had selected Dr. Baum as an expert pediatrician for SB 276, which was introduced by fellow pediatrician and state Sen. Richard Pan. SB 276 passed at the end of April. Under the new law, medical exemptions will be granted by the California Department of Public Health.
