Tiffany Priester ’04, AA Mission Council Co-chair, is a cardiologist at the VA in Loma Linda. She is definitely on the front lines as the cardiology service is actively called to the ED to rule out cardiac causes when patients present with shortness of breath. Additionally, there are known positive COVID-19 employees at the local VA. The reality that she is at high risk of being exposed has led to tough conversations at home with her husband and two small kids. “I wonder if I should move out,” she tells us, “but I’ve never been away from my kids, and four weeks feels forever to be separated from them.” She is a crucial member of the VA Scarce Resource Committee. She has much to contribute given her real-life experience in the mission field during epidemics (Africa, Ebola), where PPE scarcity was the norm and limiting codes due to futility was necessary.
